The Spirituality of Activism:

  • Social activism helps to move us past the "self-help" and "self-improvement" over-focus on only the self.
  • There are important differences between charitable activities and social engagement.
  • We need to do the groundwork out in the community, in our own groups and on the inside of ourselves regarding what we want to accomplish and why.
  • Education and solid groundwork are key in overcoming backlash, as it dispels fear and confusion about the goals.
  • We have to give people the tools to talk about these issues over any kind of divide.
